Join us for the 42nd summer season at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre as we embark on a journey to define love.

The season is laced with a variety of dramatic works that explore the universality of love. Our main stage productions include the musicals, All Shook Up and The Light in the Piazza, the plays, The 39 Steps and Romeo + Juliet, and finally the bonus show, a world premiere musical revue, I Am Woman.

The Children’s Performance Troupe series will include You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Wonderful (and Her Dog)!. Be sure to fit HSRT’s productions into your summer calendar! The season begins on June 14th and runs through August 10th at four locations: DeWitt Theatre, Knickerbocker Theatre, Park Theatre, and our Studio Theatre.

The 42nd season at HSRT opens with The 39 Steps in the Knickerbocker Theatre with a limited run engagement. Combine a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, throw in a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre!  This 2-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with non-stop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance! Adapted by Patrick Barlow, from the novel by John Buchan and from the movie of Alfred Hitchcock, The 39 Steps’ performances are at 8:00 pm on June 14, 15, 19, 20, 26, 27, 29, and July 6.

Opening June 21st in the DeWitt Theatre is the rocking musical, All Shook Up. Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley®, this hip-shaking musical showcases classics like “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Love Me Tender”, “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, and, of course, the title tune, “All Shook Up”.   This fun loving tale take us to 1950’s middle America, where one girl’s dream and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger helps a small town to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll!  Performances are June 21, 22, 28, July 10, 11, 17, 22, 25, 30 and August 2, 7 and 10 at 8:00 pm in the DeWitt Theatre.

Join us at Holland’s historic Park Theatre for the world premiere of I Am Woman, an evening of music that celebrates strong female songwriters, soloists and vocal groups of our time. This exciting new creation features music ranging from the Andrews Sisters to the Pointer Sisters! Drinks will be available for purchase. Created by Fred Tessler and Brad Landers, I Am Woman will be performed in the Park Theatre at the new time of 8:30 pm on July 2, 3, 8, 9, 18, 23, 31.

William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet will be retold in a provocative new adaptation opening this July.  Experience the ageless classic tale of spontaneous passion and revenge performed in record time!  Set against a backdrop of urban warfare and violence, our young, star-crossed lovers must overcome great obstacles, unlike anything they have seen before. Performances on July 12, 13, 18, 23, 26, 31 and August 3, 5, 8 at 8:00 pm in the DeWitt Theatre.

The sweeping musical romance of The Light in the Piazza will take us to Italy in the summer of 1953. Clara, a young American woman, falls for the handsome Fabrizio while abroad on holiday, but it is Margaret, Clara’s mother and fellow-traveler, who has the beautiful and heartfelt story to tell. This suspenseful and lyrical musical dramatizes the unconditional love between a mother and her daughter. Book by Craig Lucas with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, The Light in the Piazza will be performed July 19, 20, 24, 27, 29 and August 1, 6, 9 at 8:00 pm in the DeWitt Theatre.

Look for the first Children’s Performance Troupe (CPT) show opening on June 17th, the iconic musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown based on The Comic Strip “Peanuts®” by Charles M. Schulz with book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.  This fast-paced, lighthearted musical is guaranteed to please audiences of all ages: a day in the life of Charlie Brown and the whole Peanuts® gang, filled with laughter, fun and unforgettable songs! Performed in the DeWitt Studio Theatre at 10:30 AM on June 17, 19, 24, 26, 28, July 1, 17, 22, 26, 31 and August 5, 9 and 1:30 PM on July 24, 29 and August 2 and 7.

CPT’s second production of the summer is The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Wonderful (and Her Dog)! with book and lyrics by Lauren Gunderson and music by Brian Lowdermilk. Fly through the solar system with Dr. Wonderful and her amazing sidekicks Newton (the dog!) and Ben (the human!); girl-detective-noir meets science-geek-chic in this super-cool astronomical musical theatre event.
