Hope College’s Nancy Benda and Carli Capestany have been selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships later this month.

Benda, a freshman from Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), will play in both singles and doubles flights, while Capestany, a junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), will team with Benda in doubles.

The 2014 NCAA Division III individual women’s tennis championships will be held May 22-24 in Claremont, California, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The individual national championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The field’s selection was based on win-lost record, strength of schedule, eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Benda posted a 16-10 record as a singles player during the 2013-14 season for Hope. She played No. 1 singles for the Flying Dutch this season.

Benda and Capestany are 23-6 in doubles play this season while competing at the No. 1 flight.

This will be the 10th time a Hope singles player has competed at the Division III individual national championships and the seventh time a doubles team has done so.
