Ten Hope College athletic teams have earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Team GPA Award for the 2013-14 school year.

The MIAA GPA Award is presented to conference teams that achieve a 3.300 or better grade point average.

The women’s soccer team, coached by Leigh Sears, recorded a 3.592 Team GPA that ranked the highest among Hope honorees.

The women’s swimming/diving team, coached by John Patnott, had the second-highest Team GPA at 3.590.

The women’s cross country team, coached by Mark Northuis, claimed the Team GPA award for the 16th time with a 3.584 Team GPA.  The Flying Dutch are one of two MIAA teams to receive the honor every year since the program began.

Other Hope Team GPA winners and their coaches are women’s basketball at 3.526 (Brian Morehouse), women’s track and field at 3.511 (Kevin Cole), women’s lacrosse at 3.491 (Tracy Benjamin), volleyball at 3.429 (Becky Schmidt), men’s cross country at 3.376 (Mark Northuis), women’s tennis at 3.324 (Adam Ford) and baseball at 3.306 (Stu Fritz).

Faculty Athletic Representatives of MIAA member colleges administer the program.  Hope’s Faculty Athletic Representatives for 2013-14 were Dr. Virginia Beard, associate professor of political science, and Dr. Mark Pearson, assistant professor of mathematics.
