Hope College forward David Porte has been named All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Second Team for the 2015 season.
The senior from Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan HS) is honored after leading the Flying Dutchmen in scoring and helping them qualify for the MIAA Tournament with a fourth-place finish.
Porte scored seven goals in MIAA matches this season to tie for third most in league play.
Porte finished with eight goals in all to lead Hope. Five of them were game winners, including four in MIAA action.
Hope coach Steven Smith said Porte has been an exceptional leader for the Flying Dutchmen this fall on and off the field.
“David was chosen as a captain for his leadership ability and that leadership transferred to our success on the field as well,” Smith said. “ He scored 7 goals in the league this year and did so in six different matches. He was our source of inspiration as well using his enthusiasm to support every player on the field.
“David scored winning goals in many games this year but his work ethic in training was just as important for us. He came prepared to give his best in every training session which allowed him to have the success he did during game play.”
