Hope College’s Maura McAfee has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Award on Monday for games through November 22.

The senior forward from Midland, Michigan (Midland HS) is honored after becoming the 14th player in team history to reach 1,000 points in her career after Hope’s 102-44 defeat of Bethany, W.V. to claim the Tip Off Tournament title at DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday.

McAfee finished with 12 points and earned Tournament MVP honors. She played just 15 minutes in the victory over Bethany but poured in a dozen points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor to produce a milestone day.

McAfee also grabbed five rebounds, swiped two steals and blocked a shot in her limited time on the floor.

In Hope’s tournament opening 83-41 win against Monmouth (Ill.), McAfee scored 18 points after six field goals and 6-for-6 shooting at the free throw line. She added six blocks, six boards, an assist and a steal in 23 minutes of work to round out an impressive stat line.

This is the sixth time in her career McAfee has been selected MIAA Player of the Week and the first this season.
