Hope College center Michael Stephan has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3 of the 2016 season.

The senior from Belding, Michigan (Belding HS) anchored an offensive line that keyed a nation-leading 518-yard rushing attack during a 57-28 win at Concordia Chicago on Saturday.

Stephan made line calls and helped freshman starting quarterback Bruce Schroeder of Appleton, Wisconsin (North) as Hope posted the top single-game rushing total in NCAA Division III this season. The Flying Dutchmen eclipsed Wabash’s 513 yards against Allegheny on September 17.

Hope came within 11 yards of matching the 1971 school record of 529 rushing yards from a 64-0 win against Grand Valley State University. The Flying Dutchmen easily eclipsed their total of 162 rushing yards from the previous two games combined.

Hope’s 57 points were the Flying Dutchmen’s most in a game since 2007.

This is the first MIAA weekly recognition for Stephan.
