Hope College’s Sophia Hackett has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Specialist of the Week for games played through September 4.

The junior setter from Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) receives the honor for the first time in her career after helping the nationally ranked Flying Dutch to a 4-0 record at the season-opening Mount Union Purple Raider Classic in Alliance, Ohio.

In her first start, Hackett averaged 9.79 assists and 3.14 digs per set during the two-day tournament that featured wins against No. 2 Wittenberg, Ohio, Geneseo (N.Y.), Bethany, W.V. and John Carroll, Ohio.

Hackett totaled 28 assists and 14 digs in a three-set sweep of Wittenberg on September 2.

Hackett was named to the Purple Raider Classic all-tournament team.

The weekend performance allowed Hope to rise to seventh in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll. The Flying Dutch were 17th in the preseason poll.
