Susan Williams of East Grand Rapids has been appointed to the Hope College Alumni Association Board of Directors.

She was named to the board during the group’s fall meeting, held on Thursday-Friday, Oct. 20-21, in conjunction with the college’s Homecoming Weekend.

Williams, is a 1990 graduate of Hope, where she was a business and communication composite major.  While a student, she participated in the college’s London May Term and Philadelphia Semester. She was also a member of the varsity softball team, serving as captain as a senior.

After graduating, she worked at Adrian College in sports information and public relations. Her career has also included banking and publishing.  She is an active volunteer in the East Grand Rapids schools and regularly participates in Hope events on campus and in the Grand Rapids area.

She has lived in East Grand Rapids with her husband Michael Williams, who is a 1991 Hope graduate, since 1997. Prior to returning to West Michigan, they lived in Portland, Oregon. They have three children:  Carolyn, who is a sophomore at Hope, and Grant and Abby, who are in high school.

Williams was a second-generation student at Hope, and is the daughter of Tom and Carole Renner of South Haven, who are members of the college’s Class of 1967.  Tom was the long-time director of public and community relations and sports information director at Hope, where he served on the staff from 1967 until retiring at the end of 2013 as associate vice president for public and community relations.
