Hope College Concert Band to Perform on Dec. 7

The Hope College Concert Band will perform on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The Concert Band will perform a wide variety of music and showcase a number of student conductors from the music-education program. Selections will include works from Tylman Susato, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, David Maslanka, Dana Wilson, John Paulson, Claude Debussy, Stephen McNeff, and Henry Fillmore.

A full band of about 70 performers, the Concert Band is open to all students and community members from the Holland and Zeeland area, and is directed by Gabe Southard. Southard will also be joined onstage by guest narrator Samantha Savalle.

The Concert Band rehearses and performs standard repertoire, and allows music-education students to work on secondary instruments and rehearsal techniques. The music-education student conductors will include senior Katie Baldwin of Normal, Illinois; junior Katherine Beaudoin of Milford; junior Genevieve DeHart of Hudsonville; senior Hanna Dirkse of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; junior Matt Gilbert of Whitehall; sophomore Charlie Jordan of Grand Rapids; and sophomore Lian Robinson of Holland.

The Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts is located at 221 Columbia Ave., between Ninth and 10th streets.
