Hope College Concert Series to Feature Big Thief on Sept. 23

The Hope College Concert Series will feature Big Thief on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m. at the Park Theatre.

Big Thief is an American indie-rock band consisting of AdriAnne Lenker (guitar, vocals), Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass) and James Krivchenia (drums).

Known for their premier album’s title track “Masterpiece” and recently released song “Mythological Beauty,” Big Thief has quickly earned a loyal following with its lyrics. As Clash Magazine put it, “the group has managed to infuse occasional explosions of guitar with an emotive heart too often missing from the scene. It’s big, it’s clever, it’s Big Thief.”

According to NPR Music’s Bob Boile, Big Thief’s newest album “Capacity” has an enduring “quiet power that propels songs of the flesh and soul… Timeless songs, memorable and momentous.” Rolling Stone called the album a “Raw Folk-Rock Gem” for its “funny, propulsive, queer, dissonant and utterly intoxicating” music.

Tickets for Big Thief’s concert at the Park Theatre are $16 in advance or $20 day of the show for the general public, $12 for members of the college’s faculty and staff, and $5 for Hope students, and are available at the ticket office in the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Tickets are also available online at hope.edu/tickets.

The Park Theatre is located at 248 S. River Ave., across from Centennial Park between 10th and 11th streets.
