The Hope College Department of Music and Collegium Musicum will present the college’s annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9, in the lobby of the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts.
Tickets for the Saturday dinner are still available. Wassail and seating will take place from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The program is led by Hope College faculty member Jim DeBoer and the Collegium Musicum student vocal and instrumental ensemble, with additional entertainment provided by a harpist and the Department of Dance. As in the time of Shakespeare, guests gather at the royal court for an evening of singing, dancing, feasting and general merry-making. The feast will feature fine food, a wassail toast, figgy pudding and a boar’s head procession.
The lobby will be decorated in the manner of a castle’s grand feasting hall, complete with tapestries and suits of armor to help lend atmosphere. The wait staff will be garbed in period attire.
Collegium Musicum is a mixed chamber vocal and instrumental ensemble comprised of 24 members. Collegium members are accomplished vocal musicians who have had previous experience singing in small ensembles.
Tickets are $28 for regular admission, and $22 for students. Tickets are available in advance at the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Tickets are also available online.
The Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts is located at 221 Columbia Ave., between ninth and 10th streets.
