Alison Rich rallied during the final day of competition to become the fifth different Hope College heptathlete to earn All-America honors.

The junior from Haslett, Michigan (Haslett) finished the seven-day, two-day event with 4,574 points that concluded Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. She came in eighth place. 

Rich joins Hope’s previous All-America heptathletes Lindsay Lange (2006-2008), Kelly Etheridge (1995), Jane Pearson (2016), and Kara Vande Guchte (2010). 

On Friday, Rich rose up five spots in the standings to become an All-American. She was 13th after four events on Thursday. 

Rich opened Friday by tying for eighth place in the long jump. She went a personal-best 5.27 meters (17 feet, 3 ½ inches). 

It was Rich’s second personal-best of the competition. She had a PR in the 200 meters on Thursday. 

Rich then recorded the fifth-longest javelin toss at 37.23 meters (122 feet, 2 inches). 

In the final event, Rich took 12th in the the 800 meters by clocking a time of 2 minutes, 28.34 seconds. 

“We knew she could have a really strong second day,” head coach Kevin Cole said. “She’s a very good javelin thrower. There are a lot of points there. She also started with a PR in the long jump that set her up really nice.” 

Rich recorded the eighth-place high jump by clearing 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).

Rich took 12th in both the 110 hurdles at 15.53 seconds and the shot put at 9.54 meters (31-3 ¾).

Rich was 20th in the 200 meters with a run of 27.61 seconds.
