Hope College’s Darren Ford and Griffin Weigl has received Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Player of the Week honors for games played on September 9.

Darren FordFord, a kicker, is the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week, while Weigl, a linebacker, is the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Ford is recognized by the MIAA for the fifth time in his career. The senior from Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) kicked five extra points and one 30-yard field goal during the Flying Dutchmen’s 38-0 win against Defiance, Ohio during the home-opening Community Day on Saturday.

Ford’s field goal was the 20th of his Hope career. He also punted three times and placed two attempts inside the Defiance 20-yard line.

Griffin WeiglWeigl spearheaded a defensive effort that marked the first Community Day shutout for the Flying Dutchmen since 1978.

The senior from Saginaw, Michigan (Nouvel Catholic) recorded eight tackles, including three solo. He made one sack and collected his second interception of the season.
