The nationally ranked Hope College women’s basketball team finished second in the 2017-18 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Preseason Coaches Poll.

Coach Brian Morehouse’s Flying Dutch received one first-place vote and totaled 64 points. Last year’s champion, Trine University, was an unanimous preseason favorite. Coaches could not vote for their own team.

Hope is ranked in both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com preseason polls. The Flying Dutch tied for 10th in WBCA poll and were 13th in the D3hoops poll.

Hope is coming off a 24-5 season in which the Flying Dutch reached the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Flying Dutch return two starters, including 2016-17 all-region honoree and All-MIAA First Team forward Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) and senior guard Madison Geers of Scottville, Michigan (Mason County Central).

Hope tips off the season on Friday-Saturday, November 17-18 with its annual Tip Off Tournament at DeVos Fieldhouse that includes Heidelberg, Ohio, Finlandia and Rose-Hulman, Indiana.
