The Hope College volleyball team has claimed the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2016 season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

It is the ninth consecutive season coach Becky Schmidt’s Flying Dutch have earned the national distinction.

“We are very proud of our student-athletes for the commitment that they make to their academic success,” Schmidt said. “While the quality of their education is not solely defined by a number, we are grateful that the AVCA recognizes this success. We are proud of how our student-athletes are maximizing the educational and experiential opportunities at Hope.”

A record 822 college and high school volleyball teams were named AVCA Team Academic Award winners.
