Presentations on Sept. 14 to Explore the Problem of Plastic Waste in Marine Environments
The problem of plastic debris in aquatic environments will be the focus of presentations and a documentary screening at Hope College on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The first 30 minutes will feature two brief talks. Sandra Hansen, a local artist working to raise awareness of the problem, will display and discuss some of her artwork, and Dr. Brian Bodenbender, professor of geology and environmental science, will share information about his research on microplastics pollution on beaches.
Portions of the film “A Plastic Ocean” will be screened at 6:30 p.m. To create the 2016 documentary, an international team spent four years traveling to 20 locations around the world to better understand plastic pollution and options for addressing the problem.
Graves Hall is located at 263 College Ave., between 10th and 12th streets.
