The H2 Dance Company of Hope College will present its fall concert on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, and Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre.
The H2 Dance Company consists of Hope College students and is one of the college’s premier dance companies, performing a wide assortment of styles by a variety of choreographers. The theme for this year’s concert is “Back to Beginnings.” The company is exploring how original-repertoire dance companies lay out their performances, with each choreographer creating a piece that will address some type of beginning.
The first piece of the show is titled “Stretto,” choreographed by Matthew Farmer. The contemporary ballet piece will be organized in stretto format and will take a musical form.
“It’s a Man’s World?” is a tap solo, performed by Alex Pasker and choreographed by Crystal Frazier. Choreographed by William Charles Crowley, “Shore Leave Swing” is a 1940s-style swing piece aiming to invoke the dance of bygone years. “Elan Vital,” choreographed by Kristen Farmer, is a contemporary, Latin/jazz inspired piece.
“Origins,” choreographed by Sharon Wong, is a modern dance piece featuring an original percussion composition by Mark Lopez. “Due e Una,” choreographed by Matthew Farmer, is a duet piece. “Testify,” choreographed by Crystal Frazier, is a gospel-inspired contemporary/modern dance that will feature all of the H2 dancers.
