The Hope College Women’s Chamber Choir will present a concert with 12th Street Harmony and Luminescence on Monday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The Women’s Chamber Choir will perform sacred and secular music with a variety of instrumentalists.
The sacred set will include “Mayim, Mayim,” arranged by Valerie Shields, with instrumentalists from the choir and dancers from the college’s “Folk, Social and Swing Dance” class; “Veni, Domine (Come, Lord),” by Felix Mendelssohn, with soloists Lauren Hyink and Taylor Mills; “Wade in the Water (Spiritual)”, arranged by Mark Hayes, with guest soloist Kesline Senesca; and “I Thank You God” (poem by e.e. cummings), by Gwyneth Walker. The choir will be singing in German and English.
The secular set will include “Riawanna (Circles),” by Stephen Leek; Landliches Lied (A Spring Song),” by Robert Schumann; “I Will Be Earth (poem by May Swenson),” by Gwyneth Walker; “Today” and “This Spring,” by Libby Larsen, which is in honor of women who died of breast cancer; and “Blessing (Irish Blessing),” by Katie Moran Bart.
The Women’s Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of 20 to 30 Hope College students and is directed by Jennifer Wolfe, assistant professor of music. Established in 2001, the ensemble tackles a wide variety of fine literature for treble voices. Pianist Sarah Bast will be accompanying the choir.
The Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts is located at 221 Columbia Ave., between Ninth and 10th streets.
