A beloved Broadway gem, “The Wiz” infuses L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” with a mix of rock, gospel and soul music. In “The Wiz,” Dorothy is whisked off to the Land of Oz, where she accidentally kills the Wicked Witch of the East. She soon hears about the Wiz, a wizard who can help her get back to Kansas. Joined by the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, this timeless tale of Dorothy’s adventures through the Land of Oz is a fun, family-positive, modern musical. The musical by William F. Brown and Charlie Smalls won seven 1975 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
“The Wiz” is directed by Marcus Johnson. The creative team includes Alex Thompson as music director, Chaz Sanders as choreographer, Sandy Yaklin as scenic designer, Andrew Vincent as costume designer, Alan Piotrowicz as lighting and projection designer, Tyler Knowles as sound designer and Corinne Williams as stage manager.
