Hope Summer Repertory Theatre will kick off its 47th season with the world premiere of “Dragon Pack Snack Attack – The Musical,” on Wednesday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Center studio theatre.

Following the opening, performances will be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 15, 19 and 20; July 2, 6, 9, 10, 12, 16, 18, 24, 26 and 30; and August 3. Additional performances starting at 1:30 p.m. will take place on June 28; July 14; and August 1, 6 and 8.   All performances will take place in the DeWitt Center studio theatre.

Based on the book by Joel Schoon-Tanis and Jeff Grooters, the playful story takes place in a mythic Middle Ages. Hobart the dragon and his dragon buddies are bored with their dragon shenanigans. So what do they do? Why, fly to the beach, of course! The islands are a paradise at first, but now the dragons are hungry. When the dragons leave the tropics and discover Burger Hut, it’s a full-fledged, ferociously fearsome fast-food festival.

HSRT is partnering for the performances with one of Holland’s very own burger huts, Goog’s Pub and Grub.

The children’s book that inspired the project was written by Holland locals Joel Schoon-Tanis and Jeff Grooters in 1993 and was originally adapted for the stage by Erik Durham during his senior year at Hope College in 2013.  Premiering in conjunction with the book’s silver-anniversary year, the production features the same sweet story along with new characters and new music.

“Dragon Pack Snack Attack - The Musical” is directed by Michael Barnes. The creative team includes Alex Thompson as music director, Rebekah Santiago Berger as choreographer, Claire Bouwkamp as scenic designer, Austin Winter as costume designer, Konrad Ciolkosz as lighting designer and Charlie Hill as sound designer.

The cast includes Donovan Chambers, Brian Kim, Jimmy Nguyen, Teresa Cameon, Rebekah Santiago Berger, Julia Gomez and Brynne Fritjofson.
