Volleyball Repeats As AVCA Team Academic Award Winner

The Hope College volleyball team has claimed the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the ninth consecutive season.

The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Hope was among a record 973 women’s and men’s college and high school teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award. Coach Becky Schmidt’s Flying Dutch posted a 19-11 overall record last fall.

“We are very proud of how seriously our student-athletes take their studies,” Schmidt said. “Beyond their performance in the classroom, we are also proud of their involvement in many different opportunities that make an education rich. We are grateful for professors that care, staff that support and teammates that encourage. This was a team effort.”

The Flying Dutch have earned the national recognition 10 times since the program started in 2002.
