Evan Maday Named All-MIAA First Team In Baseball
Evan Maday made a quick and immediate impact for the Hope College baseball team as a freshman this season.
The leadoff hitter from Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Kentwood HS) has earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First Team honors after batting .364 in league games and sharing the MIAA lead with 110 at-bats.
Maday is one of 12 first-team selections and three first-team outfielders chosen by the league’s coaches.
“Evan had an outstanding freshman season both offensively and in centerfield,” Hope head coach Stu Fritz said. “We had high hopes for him as a freshman and he certainly did not disappoint. We look forward to three more great years with Evan in centerfield.”
Maday totaled 40 hits in 110 at-bats in 28 MIAA games, including six doubles, two triples and two home runs. He tied for second with 30 runs scored against MIAA competition and recorded 12 RBIs.
Maday is joined by two teammates receiving All-MIAA Second Team honors: shortstop
Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge) and rightfield Mason Opple of Hudsonville,
“Jordon is a very steady player,” Fritz said. “He is very consistent at shortstop and hit in the two-hole for us all year. He has been very consistent at the plate throughout his career. We look forward to one more year with Jordon in the middle infield.”
“Mason is a tremendous athlete who did an outstanding job for us in the outfield and at the plate,” Fritz said. “He got off to a bit of a slow start and really got it going towards the end of the season. Mason was an all-conference player a year ago as well. He is a leader for us on the field and in the clubhouse.”
