Hope College cornerback Kimani Dooley and quarterback Mason Opple have been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week.
The two played integral roles in the Flying Dutchmen’s 29-24 victory at previously
unbeaten Albion College on Saturday.
Dooley recorded two of Hope’s season-high four interceptions against Albion. The senior
from Detroit, Michigan (Clarenceville HS) also made three tackles in his first game
at Albion since a injury there during the 2016 season sidelined him for the entire
2017 season.
Dooley contributed to a defense helped the Flying Dutchmen hold Albion under its season
average of 51.3 points.
Opple accounted for four touchdowns and 328 yards of total offense against the Britons,
including a career-high 280 yards passing. The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville)
threw two touchdown passes, caught a touchdown from receiver Christian Bos, and ran
in the go-ahead score on a 1-yard plunge to start the fourth quarter.
Opple completed 21-of-29 passes for his second-highest percentage in a Hope uniform
at 72.7.
This is the first MIAA Player of the Week recognition for both Dooley and Opple.
