Hope College’s Lindsay Kooy has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

The senior defender from Metamora, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) is receiving the award for the first time after playing an integral roles in two shutout victories last week for the 13th-ranked Flying Dutch.

Kooy scored her first collegiate goal on Tuesday during a 4-0 non-league victory against unbeaten Elmhurst College (Illinois). She had the second goal in a three-goal outburst during the first 7 ½ minutes of the second half that propelled Hope to a 3-0 lead.

Kooy also contributed to limiting Elmhurst to two shots.

On Saturday, Kooy helped the Flying Dutch yield only four shots at John Carroll University (Ohio) during a 3-0 non-league victory that upped Hope’s record to 6-0-1.
