Hope College owns a now decade-long stretch of unmatched fan support for its Division III basketball teams.
A nation-leading total of 51,054 fans attended basketball games at DeVos Fieldhouse
during the 2017-18 season.
It is the 10th consecutive season both teams finished first in Division III in home
attendance.
The Flying Dutchmen averaged 2,434 fans over 10 games at DeVos Fieldhouse — nearly
twice as many as Wooster College (Ohio) and its second-place average of 1,297. The
national average was 347.
The Flying Dutch averaged 1,484 fans over 18 games at DeVos Fieldhouse last season
— 433 more than second-place Albright College (Pennsylvania). The national average
was 218.
The Flying Dutch hosted Division III’s three most-attended women’s basketball games
during the 2017-18 season:
- 2,912, Hope-Calvin College on January 13
- 2,704, Hope-Thomas More (Kentucky) College on March 10
- 2,514, Hope-Christopher Newport University (Virginia) on March 9
Head coach Brian Morehouse guided the Flying Dutch to a 29-2 record and a Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association title share last season. Hope advanced to the
national quarterfinals.
Head coach Greg Mitchell led the Flying Dutchmen to a 19-10 record and an MIAA title
share last season. Hope advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
This is the 20th season the Flying Dutchmen have topped the nation in home attendance.
This is the 12th time for the Flying Dutch.
