The Hope College men’s lacrosse team is a recipient of the National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Officials Association Jim “Ace” Adams award for the 2017 season.
The Flying Dutchmen were one of 11 teams to be recognized for the behavior of coaches,
student-athletes, administration, fans, and facilities available to officials.
Head coach Michael Schanhals said he is proud to see Hope College recognized.
“We are very pleased to be recognized for our sportsmanship and the support we get
from our administration, staff, sports information direction, athletic department,
fans, parents, and alumni,” Schanhals said. “All of that has all contributed to a
positive environment when we host home games at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
“On behalf of our program, we would like to than NILOA for recognizing and honoring
our school. Ace Adams is the exemplar of class, and we will continue to strive to
honor the game.”
Adams is a coaching legend in the sport of lacrosse. He coached at Army, Pennsylvania
and Virginia before retiring in 1992. At the time of his retirement, Adams had the
most wins among active NCAA Division I lacrosse coaches.
Adams was a three-time national champion in lacrosse as a student-athlete at Johns
Hopkins University (1947-48, 1950).
