The Hope College men’s tennis team is headed to Kenyon (Ohio) College for regional play in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament champions will open Thursday
in Gambier, Ohio against Franciscan (Ohio) University at a time to be announced.
NCAA Tournament bracket
This is the Flying Dutchmen’s third NCAA Tournament team appearance. They lost to
DePauw (Indiana) in the regional semifinals in both the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
Postseason History
Hope qualified for the national tournament by winning 5-1 at top-seeded Calvin in
the MIAA Tournament. Head coach Bob Cawood has guided the Flying Dutchmen to a 10-10
overall record in his first season.
Franciscan (15-9 overall) is the champion of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The winner will play No. 10 Washington-St. Louis in Friday’s regional semifinal.
Friday’s other semifinal pits No. 13 Kenyon (19-4) against No. 17 University of Mary
Washington, Virginia (20-5). The championship match is Saturday.
The regional champion advances to the national championship on Monday-Friday, May
21-26 at The Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.
The NCAA field includes 43 teams, including 36 conference champions.
