QB Mason Opple Receives MIAA Offensive Player Of The Week Award

Hope College quarterback Mason Opple has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week in football.

The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) is receiving the honor for the second time this season and the second time in his career.

Opple rushed for a career-high 244 yards on a career-high 27 carries during Hope’s 35-30 homecoming win against Olivet College on Saturday. He figured in directly in four of the Flying Dutchmen’s five touchdowns with three rushing scores and one passing.

Opple ran for more yards than any quarterback in Hope College history — surpassing Joe Schwander’s 2005 effort of 209 yards against Alma College.

The 244 rushing yards were the 18th-most gained by any Division III player this season and the fourth most by any Division III quarterback this season.
