Hope College’s Tate Knapp has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week in Football.

The senior defensive end from Dorr, Michigan (Hamilton HS) is honored for the first time in his career after recording a career-high three sacks Saturday during a 33-7 win against Kalamazoo College.

Knapp finished with six tackles, including the three sacks that resulted in a loss of 28 yards.

With Knapp’s help, the Flying Dutchmen yielded only 137 yards of total offense — their best effort of the season.

Knapp now has a career-high 10 sacks on the season. He leads the MIAA in that category.

Among NCAA Division III players, Knapp is one of only 16 to reach double digits in sacks this season.
