Volleyball’s McKenna Otto and Katie Rietberg Named All-MIAA First Team In Volleyball
Katie Rietberg and McKenna Otto both delivered on the volleyball court for Hope College this season, despite opponents’ best efforts to stop them.
They have been named to the All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First
Team for the 2018 season. Otto also was named the MIAA’s Freshman of the Year.
Rietberg averaged 2.60 kills per set over eight regular-season MIAA matches. An outside
hitter, she totaled 15 kills during a three-set against Alma College on September
15.
The senior from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) was a second-team selection as
a junior.
“Katie’s dependability and leadership - both on and off the court - have been stellar,”
head coach Becky Schmidt said. “She is someone we trust in any situation and finds
ways to be successful, even when the situation is stacked against her.”
Otto is a middle hitter from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North). She ranked seventh
in the MIAA with a team-best 3.16 kills per set during league matches. She had the
fourth-best hitting percentage against MIAA foes at .344.
Otto also was third in the league at 1.12 blocks her set.
“McKenna has been an incredible addition to our team this year,” Schmidt said. “Her
volleyball skill is impressive, but her aggressive attitude is just as valuable. She
is a hard worker and incredibly versatile.”
