Great Performance Series to Present Russian Renaissance Quartet

The Hope College Great Performance Series will present the award-winning quartet Russian Renaissance on Saturday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

After emerging with the $100,000 Grand Prize at the 2017 M-Prize Competition, the largest prize for chamber music in the world, Russian Renaissance has established itself as one of the most sought after ensembles in the field.

Through performances of everything from tango and folk to classical and jazz, the musicians of Russian Renaissance are redefining the possibilities of their traditional Russian folk instruments (balalaika, domra/domra alto, button accordion and balalaika contrabasso). Their use of folk instruments and fast-paced performances appeal to a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

“One of the finest displays of musicianship in the world…” said Arts at Michigan.

In addition to its success at the M-Prize Competition, Russian Renaissance also received first prize at the 69th Coupe Mondiale in Russia in 2016 and was named Musical America’s New Artist of the Month in March 2018.

Individual tickets for the concert are $23 for regular admission, $17 for senior citizens and Hope faculty and staff, and $6 for students 18 and under. Tickets are available as well as at the ticket office in the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The ticket office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at 616-395-7890.
