Hope College center Zach Smith has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Football Athlete of the Week.
The senior from Suttons Bay, Michigan (Suttons Bay HS) played a significant role in
the Flying Dutchmen’s 49-21 victory at Kalamazoo College that clinched a share of
Hope’s first MIAA title in 12 years and its first NCAA playoff berth in 13 years.
Smith anchored an offensive line effort that paved the way for a season-high 416 yards
rushing and six rushing touchdowns.
The Flying Dutchmen finished with 499 yards of total offense.
Hope can clinch an outright MIAA title and its second nine-win season on Saturday,
November 16 with a victory against Adrian College in the regular-season finale at
Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.
A three-year starter, Smith was chosen a NCAA Division III Preseason All-American
by D3football.com as a senior.
