Hope College’s McKenna Otto excelled on the volleyball court last week against some of the nation’s best competition.

The sophomore from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS) has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for her performance.

A middle blocker, Otto is the Sports Imports/AVCA NCAA Division III Player of the Week.

Otto averaged 4.53 kills and 1.13 blocks per set, helping Hope win three times out of four matches. She led the Flying Dutch in kills in all four matches. 

Otto’s 17 kills, .552 hitting percentage and four blocks propelled Hope to end a seven-game losing streak to No. 2 Calvin. 

Against Alma, Otto collected 19 kills and five blocks during the four-set victory. Against No. 1 Chicago, Otto totaled 16 kills and four blocks during a four-set loss. Against Saint Mary’s, she finished with 16 kills and two blocks. 

On Monday, Otto was named the MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week. 

Otto is the fifth Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week in program history. The last player to receive this honor was Lauren Hazekemp on October 7, 2014.
