Hope College baseball players Jordon Fairchild and Mason Opple have received all-region honors for their play during the 2019 season.
Fairchild is a third-team second baseman in the Mideast Region by the American Baseball
Coaches Association and Rawlings.
Opple is a third-team outfielder in the Mideast Region by d3baseball.com.
Both players helped the Flying Dutchmen reach the 30-win mark for the first time in
team history and finish with a 31-11 overall record. Hope placed runner-up in the
Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season standings and the league
tournament.
Fairchild batted leadoff and slugged a MIAA-leading 10 home runs this season. The
senior from Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS) came within one home run of matching
the school record.
Fairchild collected a team-record 51 runs scored and a career-high 32 runs batted
in as a senior. He hit .331 in 41 games.
Opple recorded a career-high 48 runs batted in this season while reaching the 50-hit
mark for the third consecutive season. The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville)
batted cleanup and started 42 games in right field.
