The Hope College women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams have earned Scholar All-America Team honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for the 2019 spring semester.

Led by co-head coaches John Patnott and Jake Taber, the Flying Dutch and Flying Dutchmen are among a record 480 honorees across all college divisions.

“We often talk about the bigger picture items here at Hope, the things that flat out have to come before anything that we do in the water: faith, family and academics,” Taber said. “As both of our teams are recognized for their work in the classroom, this honor reinforces the real reason we're here and the work that we do.”

The Flying Dutch recorded a 3.56 team GPA last semester to be among 185 NCAA Division III women’s recipients. They also were MIAA champions.

The Flying Dutchmen posted a 3.06 team GPA last spring for its place among 134 Division III men’s honorees.

Greg Earhart, CSCAA Executive Director, praised Patnott, who retired after 39 seasons.

"Coach Patnott leaves such a tremendous legacy at Hope — in the pool, in the classroom, and in the graduates he's helped produce,” Earhart said.
