Four Hope College track & field athletes have received Scholar-Athlete honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2018-19 academic year.

The Flying Dutchmen and Flying Dutch also claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. Teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn the award.

To qualify for USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Hope’s recipients of the individual awards are senior Emily Hamilton of Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS), juniors Mitchel Achien’g of Nairobi, Kenya (Kisumu) and Josh Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor), and freshman Jenna Breuker of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern).

Hamilton graduated last May after completing her composite major.

Achien’g is majoring in economics.

Izenbart is an exercise major and two-time national qualifier in the outdoor decathlon.

Breuker is a social work major.
