The Hope College Department of Music will be presenting its annual Gala Concert as a livestreamed event on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. The concert can be viewed online at hope.edu/live.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no in-person audience.

The concert will feature performances by the Hope College Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Fashun; Jazz Arts Collective, conducted by Jordan VanHemert; Wind Ensemble, conducted by Gabe Southard; and Chapel Choir, conducted by Eric D. Reyes.

Fashun is an assistant professor of music. He serves as the director of orchestras, the music director of the Brazilian Music Ensemble and an instructor of instrumental music education.

VanHemert is an assistant professor of music.  He teaches applied saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet and jazz history, and directs the Jazz Arts Collective.

Southard is an associate professor of music.  He conducts the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, teaches flute and leads the instrumental division of the music-education program.

Reyes is an assistant professor of music instruction. As director of choral activities, he leads three vocal ensembles which include the Chapel Choir, College Chorus and SPERA — a new SSAA ensemble (comprising two soprano sections and two alto sections) that seeks to highlight works composed by women.
