Hope College’s Mitchel Achien’g has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
The senior from Nairboi, Kenya (Kisumu School) led the Flying Dutch to a convincing
indoor league championship performance on Saturday at Trine University, winning three
individual events.
In the triple jump, Achien'g set an MIAA record while repeating as champion with a
leap of 11.25 meters (36 feet, 11 inches).
She set another MIAA record, as well as a school record in the 60-meter hurdles, with
a time of 9.02 seconds.
Achien'g also took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.35 meters (17-6 3/4). Achien'g
placed third in the 60-meter dash with a run of 8.02 seconds and fifth in the 200
meters with a run of 26.94.
This is the second time this season and in Achien’g’s career that she has been selected
as MIAA Indoor Athlete of the Week.
