A fully operational Boerigter Institute will enable every student to leave Hope with a clear direction for immediate next steps, an affirmed aspiration for an eventual career and a thoughtful understanding of vocational and life goals.
The principal goal of the Boerigter Institute is to teach students how to engage in lifelong practices of career development by emphasizing discernment, preparation and pursuit. We seek to accomplish this by renaming and re-imagining the efforts of our Career Development Center to prepare students for life after Hope, intersecting advising, experiential learning and career into a single entity.
Our vision for an integrative and imaginative approach conceives of a model encompassing three domains:
- Individual, inspiring students to understand their own gifts and passions
- Institutional, enabling students to mature in their intellectual and practical understanding of their field of interest
- World, helping students build networks beyond Hope that affirm their desired path and connect them to those who can help them achieve their post-Hope aspirations
This significant effort is made possible by a major gift from SoundOff Signal in honor of Founder and Chairman George Boerigter ’61 and his wife, Sibilla.
With wise leadership and judicious use of the Boerigter gift both to launch the Boerigter Institute and to leverage additional funding, we believe Hope College can become recognized as a national leader, especially among Christian liberal arts colleges, for having achieved a broadly integrated program of career and life preparation for its students.
The Boerigter Institute embodies and enriches the mission of Hope College:
“The mission of Hope College is to educate students for lives of leadership and service in a global society through academic and co-curricular programs of recognized excellence in the liberal arts and in the context of the historic Christian faith.”
