Graduation means earning the degree; Ceremony means participation in some or all the activities. Most students do both.
Minimum Requirements for Graduation:
Shortly after the drop/add deadline, we send degree-seeking students with 66 or more earned credits an e-mail to their Hope account. At that time they may use the on-line form on the Registrar’s webpage to apply to graduate for the current year December, or the following year May, July or December graduation date. Even if students do not plan to be in the ceremony, they must apply to graduate to be considered for a degree and diploma.
All majors and minors should be declared by now. Those not declared (or declared when they should be undeclared) may cause delays in graduation or omission from honors consideration.
The normal deadline for submission of an application to graduate. Refer to the September e-mail for a specific date. Those who miss the deadline will be accommodated to the extent we are able, but may miss notices, honors consideration, etc.
We send Hope e-mail messages to current year applied December graduates indicating that they have not met one or more requirements for their graduation. They should examine their degree evaluation and take action to fix the problem by changing their grad date, doing paperwork for a substitution or waiver, etc.
After registration, applicants for May or July graduation should check their degree evaluations/transcripts to be sure they are meeting all the graduation requirements, including the minimum 126 earned credits, or will meet them by their grad date.
The Provost’s Office hosts a luncheon for the current year applied December graduates and their parents, usually during exam week. Information comes from the Provost’s office.
The December applicants who just graduated may expect their diplomas at their permanent address, if they owe no money to Hope. Grads may update their permanent address using the myhope account on the alumni webpage.
Deadline for December Grads is January 31.
We send lists of applied May and July grads to the major and minor departments. We begin to send Hope e-mail messages to students who have a “not met” on their degree evaluation. Everyone should be sure that their earned credits will be a minimum of 126. Credits are affected by drops, withdraws, and repeated classes.
We continue to send Hope e-mails to the May applicants urging those who are missing requirements to add classes, makes substitutions, etc. so their degree evaluation indicate they are ready to graduate after grades are posted.
We continue checking May and July applicants to urge them to make the needed adjustments so their degree evaluations will indicate their requirements are met.
Grades are due at 4pm on the Wednesday after exam week. After processing time, usually one to three days, we post the degrees to the transcripts of all whose degree evaluations are in order. We continue to graduate others as grades are entered, paperwork for substitutions is received, etc. Diplomas are generally run within 2 weeks after the grades are due, and are sent to the permanent address, unless money is owed to the college. For those not graduated in the first group, diplomas are run at about 1 month intervals. Grads may update their permanent address using the myhope account on the alumni webpage.
We continue to contact May applicants who have not yet graduated at their Hope email, and to send Hope e-mails to July grads whose degree evaluations are missing a requirement.
That means all 126 credits must be on the record—no NR or I grades—and the degree evaluation must say everything is met before 8 am on July 15. May applicants who have not yet completed their requirements are moved to consideration as July grads.
Deadline for May grads is July 15.
We continue checking, notifying and posting degrees for any July applicants not yet graduated. Diplomas are sent to the permanent address usually by mid-August, if the student has graduated and owes no money to Hope. Grads may update their permanent address using the myhope account on the alumni webpage.
Deadline for July grads is August 31.
_That means all 126 credits must be on the record - no NR or I grades and the degree evaluation must say everything is met before 8am on August 31.
After the deadline, we do not continue checking. You must notify email@example.com to be considered for a future graduation date.
Hope has grad dates in May, July and December.
