Why I Love Hope

Jill’s connection to Hope College started long before she applied for a job here. Her husband is a proud Hope alum, and she’s spent years watching how this community shaped him long after graduation. Some of their closest, most enduring friendships trace directly back to his time here. These relationships have carried them through decades, job changes and every stage of raising a family together. That kind of lasting impact says something about a place.

What has always struck her about Hope, even from the outside, is how consistently it shows up in conversation and reputation as somewhere people don’t just attend, but instead belong to. It’s routinely recognized as one of West Michigan’s best places to work, and having watched it for years, that reputation feels earned. There’s a warmth running through the culture here, where people who left decades ago still speak of Hope like it critically shaped who they became.

Jill is looking forward to being part of an institution she’s admired for so long, and to helping create the same first impression that made her husband, and now her, fall in love with this place. Hope isn’t just a campus; it’s a community. One she’s admired for years, and she cannot wait to help extend that same feeling of welcome to the next family who walks through our doors.

Outside the College

Jill is a mom to three wonderful kids who are growing up so fast that she and her husband are rapidly being forced to acknowledge their empty-nester stage. Outside of their family she is an avid reader (predominantly fiction), sports-enthusiast and beleaguered Lions fan, and she loves trying new restaurants and local places.
