Alison Schut
Director of the Hope Health Center
As a Hope graduate, Alison is both a product of and a firm believer in the Hope experience of liberal arts education. During her time as a nursing student here, she was able to participate in athletics, a study abroad semester in Chile, two spring break immersion trips and volunteering with ESL classes in the community.
Her experience at Hope was formative in launching her career in nursing and beyond. Alison worked at the University of Washington for 10 years and developed a love of academic medicine there. She also served on boards for two non-profits during that time.
A winding path brought her back to Hope in 2023, when she started working in the Hope College Health Center as a nurse practitioner. In January 2025, she assumed the director role and has loved getting more involved on campus.

Why I Love Hope
Alison loves the students and her colleagues! She is grateful for the chance to partner with students as they navigate the transition into adulthood and care for their health independently. It’s a privilege to contribute to their experience at Hope by empowering them to thrive. And, she loves to collaborate with wonderful colleagues, both in the Health Center and across campus.
Outside the College
Alison loves to be outside and active, whether running, walking, biking, skiing… or chasing her three kids. She also enjoys cooking as a creative outlet and is happiest while sharing meals with people!
