Ten HopeCollege students earned honors in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Michigan State Chapter Auditions, held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Hope students earned four first-place awards, three second-place awards and three third-place awards.  More than 250 students from colleges and universities from throughout the state participated.

° Ross Green, a senior from Plainwell, earned first place in the College Senior Men category.

° Briana Sosenheimer, a senior from Fort Wayne, Ind., earned second place in the College Senior Women category.

° Sarah Ashcroft, a junior from Holland, earned first place in the College Junior Women category.

° Caitlin McDougall, a sophomore from Flint, earned second place in the College Sophomore Women category.

° Brent Smith, a sophomore from Owosso, earned third place in the College Freshmen Men category.

° Heather Benson, a sophomore from Norton Shores, earned first place in the Advanced Beginners category.

° Angelee Garcia, a junior from Belmont, earned first place in the College Junior/Senior Musical Theatre category.

° Jared Graybiel, a senior from Lebanon, Ind., earned second place in the College Junior/Senior Musical Theatre category.

° Lauren Conley, a junior from WhiteLake, earned third place in the College Junior/Senior Musical Theatre category.

° Hannah Czarniowski, a sophomore from Rochester Hills, earned third place in the College Freshman/Sophomore Musical Theatre category.

All are students of Linda LeFever Dykstra, who is an associate professor of music and chair of the voice division at Hope.

A total of 17 students from Hope competed in the auditions, which provided cash prizes and a chance for the first-place winners to sing in an honors recital at the end of the day.  In addition, all of the first-, second- and third-place honorees will have the opportunity to compete in the Great Lakes Regional Auditions in Ontario, Canada in March, competing with other student winners from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Ontario, Canada.
