Hope College Jazz Combos will perform a concert on Monday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The concert will feature four student ensembles:  the Impulse Ensemble, the Vanguard Ensemble, the Verve Ensemble and the Blue Note Ensemble.

° The Impulse Ensemble will perform tunes by John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Steve Kuhn.  The ensemble is coached by senior Nate Roberts of West Milton, Pa., and the performers are:  freshman Matt Costello of Holland; senior Jessica Early of Vestal, N.Y.; freshman Guillermo Flores of Holland; freshman Joshua Holicki of Coldwater; freshman Alex Mouw of Holland; and freshman Christian Nikkel of Holland.

° The Vanguard Ensemble will be playing tunes by Bernie Miller and John Coltrane.  The ensemble is coached by Tom Lockwood, instructor of saxophone, and the performers are:  freshman Luke Ibach of Eden Prairie, Minn.; senior Lucas Johnson of Cadillac; junior Colin Rathbun of Ada; and junior Garrett Stier of Davison.

° The Verve Ensemble will be playing tunes by Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis and Lee Morgan.  The ensemble is coached by Mike VanLente, instructor of jazz percussion, and the performers are:  freshman R. Forest Dodson of Kalamazoo; freshman Michael Graverson of Hamilton; senior Caleb Murray of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; junior Shelby Peterson of Ann Arbor; sophomore Wesley Rieth of Three Oaks; and freshman Tyler Vuillemot of DeWitt.

° The Blue Note Ensemble will be performing tunes by Charlie Parker, Earl Brent, Freddie Hubbard and Horace Silver.  The ensemble is coached by Steve Talaga, instructor of music, jazz piano and composition, and the performers include:  sophomore Michael Bass of Hudsonville; sophomore Kin Fong of Northbrook, Ill.; junior Justin Makowski of Detroit; junior Kyle McLellan of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and junior James Sa of Rochester Hills.

Nykerk Hall of Music is located in the central Hope campus at the former 127 E. 12th St. between College and Columbia avenues.
