Two Hope College golfers have been selected as NCAA Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for the 2013-14 season: Collin Breit and Ben Lanting.

Breit, a junior from Muskegon, Michigan (Western Michigan Christian HS), and Lanting, a junior from Littleton, Colorado (Front Range Christian HS), were among 46 Division III honorees.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Breit is majoring in chemistry and minoring in Spanish.

Lanting is majoring in religion and minoring in ministry-worship leadership.

Breit and Lanting helped the Flying Dutchmen tie for 17th at the NCAA Division III Championships last spring. Hope also won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season and league tournament titles.

Hope coach Bob Ebels said Breit and Lanting showed good leadership to the rest of the team to work for excellence in the classroom.

“This award is a example of that,” Ebels said. “They work hard in the classroom.”
