Hope College and Holland Christian High School student ensembles will present a folk concert featuring music from the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Released in 2000, “O Brother, Where Art Thou” sparked a renaissance of American folk music, making the careers of many young folk and bluegrass musicians, and reigniting a flame of bluegrass and old-time music festivals around the country. The concert will feature the full soundtrack to the film, which includes bluegrass, country, gospel, blues and folk music.
The arrangements are by Nate Roberts of the college’s music faculty. The student ensembles featured will include the Appalachian String Band, the Americana Roots Ensemble, the Indie Folk Ensemble, 12th Street Harmony, Luminescence, the OTD Jazz Ensembles, the Holland Christian High School Folk Ensemble and others.
The Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts is located at 221 Columbia Ave., between Ninth and 10th streets.
