The Hope College Great Performance Series will feature The Queen’s Six vocal ensemble on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

Fresh from the royal wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, the six members of The Queen’s Six are among the lay clerks of St. George’s Chapel, where as members of the Chapel Choir they live on the Windsor Castle grounds.  St. George’s has existed since the 14th century, and its Chapel Choir performs some eight services a week, as well as at private and state occasions, often before the royal family.

“The close musical rapport that develops when six men sing together every day, as the Queen’s Six do, is very much in evidence…. They bring seamless blend and balance to music,” said The Guardian.

The ensemble was established in 2008, the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I, from whom the group takes its name.  The Queen’s Six’s music covers a variety of unique genres, from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, madrigals and haunting folk songs, to upbeat jazz and pop arrangements. The program at Hope will include works ranging from William Byrd to Stevie Wonder.

Individual tickets for the concert are $23 for regular admission, $17 for senior citizens and Hope faculty and staff, and $6 for students 18 and under. Tickets are available online at hope.edu/tickets as well as at the ticket office in the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The ticket office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at 616-395-7890. More information is available at hope.edu/arts
