Advocacy for immigrants will be the focus of a panel discussion on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. at Hope College in the Fried-Hemenway Auditorium of the Martha Miller Center for Global Communication.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

The event, “Advocacy: Action vs. Apathy,” will explore the ways that families are being impacted by the nation’s immigration laws, policies and practices, and consider the role of the populace in a democracy.  The panelists will present opening remarks, after which the discussion will continue in a question-and-answer format.

The panel event is co-sponsored by the college’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates and Hope Church.  It is the first in a series of presentations planned for the fall about advocacy.

The Martha Miller Center for Global Communication is located at 257 Columbia Ave., at the corner of Columbia Avenue and 10th Street.
