MaidenMaiden

The Hope College Knickerbocker Theatre will show the sailing documentary “Maiden” on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Hope College Sailing Club.

“Maiden” tells the story of Tracy Edwards who, in 1989, led the first all-female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Race, a grueling yachting competition that covers 33,000 miles and lasts nine months. Although she was opposed on all sides, from her male competitors to the press who took bets on her failure, she remortgaged her home and bought a secondhand yacht, “Maiden.” With the support of her remarkable crew, Edwards went on to prove her capability.

Tickets are $7 for regular admission and $6 for senior citizens, Hope College faculty and children, and will be sold at the door.  All Hope College profits for the event will support the Hope College Sailing Club.

The Knickerbocker Theatre is located in downtown Holland at 86 E. Eighth St., between College and Columbia avenues.
