The Department of Music at Hope College will present a pre-recorded concert titled “Sing On! Songs of Hope, Faith and Love” featuring the Chapel Choir, College Chorus, and SPERA, Saturday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. The recording will premiere at hope.edu/live

During the concert, SPERA, which is an SSAA ensemble (comprising two soprano sections and two alto sections), will perform “Dixit,” by Charles H. Gabriel; “Ascribe to the Lord” and “Still I Rise,” by Rosephayne Powel; “Storm comin’,” arranged by Ruth Moody; and “I Will Be Earth,” by Gwenyth Walker.

The Chapel Choir will perform “Ubi Caritas,” by Maurice Duruflé; “Concord,” by Benjamin Brittan; and “North,” by Ryan O’Neal.

Together the Chapel Choir and College Chorus will perform “I Sing Because I’m Happy,” by Charles H. Gabriel; “Ndikhokhele Bawo,” a traditional prayer sung in Xhosa; “Geistliches Lied, Op. 30,” by Johannes Brahms; and “If Music be the Food of Love,” by David C. Dickau.

The ensembles are conducted by Eric D. Reyes, assistant professor of music instruction and director of choral activities.
